What's Happening >> Notice Board

Welcome to the Living Smart Noticeboard! It’s open to all Living Smart participants and other residents so they share Living Smart tips and recipes.

If you’ve got something to contribute, then e-mail us at greenhouse@smrc.com.au. Ideas should not contain advertising or mention brand names– but feel free to include weblinks you’ve found useful and a sentence or two on why it has proved helpful.

Waste Smart
1 Mar 2005 I aim working on reducing the volume of both our home bins by reducing and reusing. We now get a box of local organic vegetables and fruit delivered to our door unpackaged and with a returnable box. This has helped a lot in both reducing waste and improving our health.

Water Smart
9 Dec 2004 The bucket under the shower to catch the cold water has enabled us to save water and parch the thirst of our pot plants outside the backdoor. Stephanie

Smart Gardens for Biodiversity
7 Nov 2007 I carefully choose local natives appropriate for our soil type and now am having success. On planting I add a little worm juice and soil wetter. I plant relatively densely as some will not survive. I create substantial wells so I deeply water them in summer a couple of times a week only.

Smart Gardens for Productivity
7 Nov 2007 Taking on establishing a productive garden patch has been a long process, but so rewarding. Focussing on salad greens has been a winner. Fresh lettuce, mizuna and herbs just plucked from the garden - nothing like it!

Power Smart
8 Dec 2004 We noticed draughts in our house due to our exhaust fan vent and have since installed a cheap draught stopping product blocks it when its not whirring away. Stephanie

Move Smart
25 Jan 2005 In White Gum Valley we set up a neighbourhood walking group amongst those in the area doing the course. We set off on Thursday afternoons at 5:30 and picked up Living Smart neighbours. Lots of fun socially and a good way to get exercise without driving anywhere. Stephanie

Health Smart You
25 Jan 2005 We really enjoying brekkie with fresh seasonal fruits, ground nuts (hand ground of course!), 1 teaspoon of green stuff – Spirulina, 1 tablespoon of puffed amaranth and a little Flaxseed oil drizzled over the top. Stir in and enjoy – watch out for the green moustache! Stephanie

Health Smart Home
7 Nov 2007 We air out the house regularly flush out chemical buildup and moisture in the air. And we now sun our pillows to address dust mite buildup and mould.

Community Living Smart
7 Nov 2007 Connecting with the community I live in is a tremendously rewarding part of my life. It was helped by having several neighbours attend the same Living Smart course and now we have a common point of connection and theme of discussion.

Simple Living
1 Mar 2005 Cleaning out my house is now a yearly thing. Taking on the simplicity principles, I clean out each room as least once a year and I feel great after it is all done. It’s nice to be surrounded by the things you want and need rather than the stuff that never gets used or admired, Caroline.

Terms of use

Keeping your home at a constant temperature all year round creates a perfect breeding ground for mould and bacteria. Let the house cool in winter and heat up a little in summer.
