How to do it

The Living Smart Kit has been developed to support individuals, groups and centres in the delivery, learning and enjoyment of the Living Smart program. We put our Eureka Prize money towards this Kit so Living Smart could flourish at new centres and situations and be freely available to all.

If you are keen to run a course, first attend a local Living Smart course (if possible) to personally experience the program. Then complete this simple permission form and look at resources in the Living Smart kit and from the Facilitators Network at our wiki site.

The Kit is split into the following sections:

  • Participating: This section is for Living Smart participants. It contains the Living Smart Action Guide, Discussion Circle Workbook & Goal Setting cards.
  • Facilitating:This section is for Living Smart facilitators. It contains the resources, session plans and other important facilitating information you will need to facilitate a successful course.
  • Hosting: This section is intended for organizations, centres, businesses, anyone who is interested in running Living Smart. It provides important information on starting up your course and poster to promote it.

Living Smart has also been designed to be inclusive and to cater for all learning styles.  The Inclusive Living Smart program is all about tasting, touching, hearing and seeing sustainability in action and involves practical demonstrations, activities, discussion circles and excursions.  To run an Inclusive Living Smart program, have a look and download all the materials you need.

A Living Smart Talking Book is also being prepared and is available on request by calling the Senior Environmental Planner at the City of Fremantle on 08 9432 9999. And to read about our experiences in running the Pilot Inclusive Living Smart program, here is our Evaluation Report.

Living Smart has moved into the workplace! You can download the Living Smart at Home and Work program materials from here.

Take a look! We’d love you to run it in your community. It's free on the proviso that there is no commercial gain involved and you share the findings with us.

Past Program Materials

In addition, we have made available materials for publicity, presentation and evaluation used in Living Smart Programs including the pilot programs at The Meeting Place. You may find these a useful starting point for your Living Smart program. When you've finished, we invite you to share your materials and results through this site. A recent study showed that nearly two thirds of Australians say they cannot afford to buy everything they really need, despite the fact that Australians are richer than ever and about three times better off than their parents in the 1950s.
